Fishing Info

Captain Meyer's service area is all of the Middle and Lower Keys. This includes Key Largo, Islamorada, Marathon, Big Pine, Key West, and all spots in between. He knows several hundred spots to fish allowing the adventure to be taylored according to the species desired and the weather conditions.

There are numerous types of fishing in the Florida Keys, which ensures year round sport fishing. These include all types of both inshore and offshore fishing. Flats fishing in the mangroves of the back country is a favorite for catching Bone Fish, Permit and Tarpon. Fishing the cuts below the bridges is a great way to be exposed to an abundance of fish as tide comes and goes.

Offshore fishing on both the Gulf and the Atlantic sides will expose you to the larger meatier fish. With numerous spots, wrecks and the reef, you will be sure to have a great experience.

If you want to fish both the flats and offshore, it can be arranged. We can alternate every other day or make other arrangements, so you can do both. This will be priced according to the arrangements made.

Bonefish, Tarpon and Permit can be caught year round with other resident species. This chart is my preferred months in order for each fish.

Bonefish SEPT, OCT, JULY, JAN, FEB & MARCH
Permit FEB, MARCH, SEPT, OCT & JULY
Tarpon (residents) SEPT, OCT, AUGUST, JULY & NOV.

Barry's Boats

Barry's flats boat is a Maverick with a Kevlar hull that's powered by a Yamaha outboard. This boat draws minimal water and allows access to the shallowest of spots on the flats. A 25' Sea Vee center console is used for the offshore trips. This is powered by twin Yamaha 150hp 4 stroke outboards.

Fishing Info

Gear provided on the charter includes fly and/or spin rods, reels, bait, tackle, cooler and ice (bring your own lunch and beverages), and hand-tied custom flies. Magic Charters Sport Fishing uses Loomis rods with Shimano and Abel reels. With the best equipment on the market at your disposal, you can have confidence in your ability to catch the big ones.

What to Bring

When you come will determine the kind of clothes you need. Bring a light jacket in the winter, and shorts in the summer. A light long sleeve shirt or pants in the summer is advisable. Polarized sunglasses are a must, preferably with amber or brown colored lenses. Your lunches can be ordered fresh for you from the local Deli, or you can simply pack your own. A camera is also recommended.
